KR21 @ Wikimania 2026

23 July 2026 - 24 July 2026 | Paris, France
Conference
advocacy eBooks user rights

Across 23 and 24 July, KR21 is bringing three sessions to Paris that examine how copyright shapes the work of digital libraries and open-knowledge practitioners, and what the next wave of EU reform needs to deliver. On 23 July, Camille Françoise and Ophélie Wang, the KR21 national coordinators for France, are leading the first two. On 24 July, they are joined by KR21 Programme Lead Stephen Wyber, from IFLA, for the final one.

#1 - 23 July, 09:30 - 10:25 CEST | Accès refusé ? Le droit d'auteur face aux bibliothèques numériques

A French-language panel examining how digital libraries work to widen access to their collections: the practices, the efforts, the limits, and a comparison of the solutions being adopted.

#2 - 23 July, 16:00 - 17:25 CEST | Legal self-defense workshop for open-knowledge practitioners

Copyright law is routinely identified as a barrier to open knowledge, but it can also be used creatively. Led by trained lawyers and knowledge rights advocates, this is not a legal class but a forum for practitioners to share practices around fostering access to knowledge.

#3 - 24 July, 14:30 - 15:25 CEST | Légiférer pour la libre circulation des connaissances. De l'ambition à la réforme

A French-language session on the 5th Freedom, the free movement of knowledge, and how to turn it from an EU buzzword into concrete reform. With the European Research Area (ERA) Act on the horizon, the session examines the levers that matter: secondary publication rights, out-of-commerce works, and protection for research and cultural institutions against unfair contract terms, before mapping out a practical advocacy plan.
